10+ Gift Ideas for a Young Boy
#1. Highlights Magazine Subscription

My parents signed Gracie and Caleb up for the Highlights Magazine Subscription a couple years ago, and my kids get so excited when they come in the mail. There are 3 age options – toddler, preschool and elementary school age. I set them at their seats at the island, and they look through them before school while they are eating their breakfast. It usually takes them about a week worth of breakfasts to work their way through the magazine.

#2. Melissa and Doug Classic Kitchen

Melissa & Doug Mixing Set , Melissa & Doug Cooking Utensil Set , Wooden Sandwich Making Set & Felt Sandwich Making Set, Melissa & Doug Pots and Pans
Melissa and Doug make the best toys. This kitchen set is no exception. Several years ago I researched dozens and dozens of play kitchens for kids, and this one came out on top. There are so many fun accessories for this kitchen, and perhaps more than any other set we have gotten, this Melissa and Doug Classic Kitchen continues to provide hours and hours of play for all three of the kids.

#4. Thomas & Friends Fisher Price Wooden Railway

Honestly, the Thomas Wooden Railway set needs little review. This toy has stood the test of time, and watching my children play with this set at anyone’s house who still had it from when their own children were little, made me realize that this is one of those collections that will become a generational favorite and will continue to be passed down. Thomas the Wooden Railway has tons of accessories and options to build on to it for years. For Caleb’s 3rd birthday, everyone in the family contributed to get it started, and continued to add pieces over the years including this Thomas & Friends play table. Gracie, Caleb and Lily play with this table all the time, and it is so fun to watch them play all together.

#5. Melissa and Doug Magic Water Coloring Books

Oh my word. If there is one gift that every single one of my kids would be excited about getting again and again it is these magic water coloring books. They have gone through so many of these this year and gotten some for Christmas, birthdays, travel packs etc. They can be taken anywhere and there is no risk of coloring on furniture or anywhere. Just fill the brush with water and color. Reuse them again and again!

#6. Sequence Junior Board Game

Caleb and Gracie love to play Sequence Junior, and we often set it up girls versus boys. Granted Caleb’s strategy typically involves just playing the cards with his favorite animals, but as he gets older he has gotten a better grasp of the game!

#7. Car track

The above Fisher Price car track Caleb has is no longer in stock, but the this Fisher Price track is a similar concept. Caleb and Lily especially love sending cars flying down the track. The only downside is that it’s bulky and difficult to store, but it would be perfect for a playroom.

#8. Travel Neck Pillow

My kids fight over who gets the neck pillow in the car (let’s just say they are each getting their own for Christmas this year!). I like the way this neck pillow wraps around to the front as well to avoid “the bob.”

#9. Avengers Projection Digital Watch

This Avengers Projection watch has been the most loved $8 toy in history. Caleb has hardly taken this watch off since he got it for his birthday a couple months ago. Amazingly it has even been through the bath and still came out on the other side. He loves to watch it project the different Avengers faces on the roof of his bunk bed at night.

#10. Melissa and Doug Underwater Floor Puzzle

This floor puzzle by Melissa and Doug has been put together more times than I can count. The kids all get down on the floor together, and it is precious to watch the older two find pieces for Lily and then get all excited for her when she puts it in.
