#1. sequence for kids

Both Zach and I grew up in families that loved to play games.
We have hours of memories playing games with cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents, and we want to establish this same foundation with our kids.
We have TONS of games and puzzles, and here are a couple of Caleb’s favorites.

#9. Melissa and Doug Cardboard Building Blocks

These sturdy cardboard blocks are tons of fun, and I cannot count the number of towers, walls and bridges that have been built and knocked down – rinse and repeat!
They fit well in a standard size storage bench/ottoman such as the one below that also doubles as seating.

#10. Magnetic Dartboard

In case you missed it, this is a magnetic dart board.
Some of you just saw the picture and wondered if all the plaster dust had gotten to my head that I would recommend a dart board for a young boy for Christmas.
Magnetic.
And because this dartboard entails throwing an object at another object – it is the perfect Christmas gift for a young boy!

#11. 3-IN-1 SPLASH PAD

This 3-in-1 splash pad, sprinkler for kids, and toddler pool was one of the best $20 investments our family has made yet! Below is a video of the sprinklers turning on and the pool filling up.
I love that you can vary the height of the fountains by turning the water pressure up or down on the hose. It is SO easy. SO convenient. And all three of my kids played in it this past for hours.
Turn off the fountains and the tiny pool retains the water, but it is easy to dump and put away when finished.

THOMAS & FRIENDS FISHER PRICE WOODEN RAILWAY

Here are a couple favorites that are over $30, but have been worth every penny.
The Thomas Wooden Railway set needs little review. This toy has stood the test of time, and watching my children play with this set at anyone’s house who still had it from when their own children were little, made me realize that this is one of those collections that will become a generational favorite and will continue to be passed down.
Thomas the Wooden Railway has tons of accessories and options to build on to it for years. For Caleb’s 3rd birthday, everyone in the family contributed to get it started, and continued to add pieces over the years. Gracie, Caleb and Lily play with this table all the time, and it is so fun to watch them play all together.

Highlights magazine subscription

I mentioned this last year as well, but my kids still love these as much as they did last year!
Several years ago my parents signed Gracie and Caleb up for a Highlights Magazine Subscription. There are 3 age options – toddler, preschool and elementary school age.
I set them at their seats at the island, and they look through them before school while they are eating their breakfast. It usually takes them about a week worth of breakfasts to work their way through the magazine.
Picasso Tiles (Magna Tiles)

These Picasso Tiles are significantly cheaper than Magna Tiles and are played with constantly by all three of my kiddos.
Black and Decker Tool Bench

Caleb has loved his tool bench. He has built everything from a house to a birthday cake. Love me some screwdriver cake.
