Christmas Gift Ideas for a Young Boy #1.
Honestly, the Thomas Wooden Railway set needs little review. This toy has stood the test of time, and watching Caleb play with this set at anyone’s house who still had it from when their boys were little, made me realize that this is one of those collections that will become a generational favorite and will continue to be passed down. Thomas the Wooden Railway has tons of accessories and options to build on to it for years. For Caleb’s last birthday, everyone in the family contributed to get it started, and will add more pieces for Christmas including this Thomas & Friends play table.
Christmas Gift Ideas for a Young Boy #2.
This is the most recent version of the one that Caleb was given as a hand-me-down by a neighbor. Caleb has absolutely loved his tool bench, and similar to the Melissa and Doug Kitchen, I love seeing all 3 kids playing with it – hammering here and drilling something there. Caleb has built everything from a house to a birthday cake with his tool bench. Love me some screwdriver cake.

Zach’s parents got the older two kids these scooters a couple Christmases ago, and they have been USED and used HARD. I can’t believe how well these have held up considering the abuse they have taken. They play with them in our basement in the winter and ride them around our neighborhood the rest of the year. The wheels light up and there is a brake for the back wheel. The front handle is adjustable. Caleb actually prefers this Vokul Scooter to his bike.

Every kid needs a bike and this one has not disappointed. It is well made with training wheels that can be taken off, a bell that will inevitably be rung way more than your ears can handle, and there are several wheel size options.

This cot is a must have for toddlers and young kids. The older two each have one for camping, going to our family cabin, or overnights. Set up is unbelievably easy and does not instigate the muttering of any 4-letter words which is not insignificant for those of us who have made it through the Pack N Play years. I mean seriously people, I have two Masters degrees and I swear a rocket scientist wouldn’t be able to figure out some of these “easy to use” kids’ items.

Each of my kids has his or her own camping chair which is nice for not just camping, but also picnics, sporting events etc. Pretty much all of our camping equipment is by Coleman because I trust the quality of their products having used them for many years.

My kids have spent hours playing in this outdoor playhouse. Initially I had gotten it for the backyard and then when our neighbor gave us this swing set for free, I removed the top, painted the house to match the swing set and built a platform where a sand box was supposed to go and incorporated it into the swing set.

In case you missed it, this is a magnetic dart board. Some of you just saw the picture and wondered if all the plaster dust had gotten to my head that I would recommend a dart board for a young boy for Christmas. Magnetic. And because this dartboard entails throwing an object at another object – it is the perfect Christmas gift for a young boy! It hangs on a wall in our basement in the kids play area.

These sturdy cardboard blocks are tons of fun, and I cannot count the number of towers, walls and bridges that have been built and knocked down – rinse and repeat! We keep them in our family room in a wooden chest that also acts like a bench when needed.

Melissa and Doug make the best toys. This kitchen is no exception. Several years ago I researched dozens and dozens of play kitchens for kids, and this one came out on top. There are so many fun accessories for this kitchen, and perhaps more than any other set we have gotten, this Melissa and Doug Classic Kitchen continues to provide hours and hours of play.
Merry Christmas and happy shopping!
